San Jacinto Hunt Results 10/23 – 11/20

This is SoCalHunt’s first hunt report for the San Jacinto Wildlife Area. Since we’re starting this just before the middle of the season I’ll just give an overall report for the first 9 days of the season. (that would be through 11/20/10). Tom Trakes, at San Jacinto, reported that the refuge is shooting well with things improving as we get deeper into the season. As of Saturday 11/20/10 there have been 1056 hunters at San Jacinto. There have been 1907 waterfowl bagged so far. This translates into a 1.8 bird average per hunter. The geese are around but not many have been taken with only 11 geese total so far. There are snows, cacklers and honkers all in the area and, hopefully, more will be harvested in the coming weeks. The duck bag consisted of a good mix with the number one bird being teal, with northern shovelers coming in a close second. As more birds migrate south results should improve at the refuge.

San Jacinto is open for waterfowl hunting on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. You can put in for reservations through the state reservation system (your card has to be to Fish and Game in Sacramento 17 days in advance to get in on the drawing – buy one day and five day reservation cards at your local license agent AKA: sporting goods store) or you can get in on the daily “sweatline” drawing for the remaining blinds after the reservations are taken care of. Reservation spots are given out starting at 3 AM and the “sweatline” drawing is done after that. You can also show up for an afternoon refill hunt but the last refill is at 1 PM. For more information, contact the staff at San Jacinto at 951-928-0580.

We will have more hunt results from San Jacinto soon and I will be more detailed as to the bird types and numbers as I get more current reports from Tom.

Don’t forget, if you’re going to San Jacinto, that they are conducting their annual toy drive for Loma Linda Children’s Hospital (see the prior post here about the toy drive for details) so bring a toy for the barrel!
